Limited-edition Vultura Macabra 14" Art Figure by Camille Rose Garcia - Moldy Mint Edition

In honor of today’s drop of the limited-edition Vultura Macabra 14″ Art Figure by Camille Rose Garcia, in exclusive Moldy Mint, we spoke with the creator about her art and the history that lead to her this point in time.

You have said you got your start at a young age working on murals. How do you think that influenced the direction of your art?

My mom was a muralist, and I learned a lot working with her. I think the biggest thing was how to be creative, but also make a living at it! She ran her own business and supported two kids making art. So I guess I always had the encouragement and belief that that was possible.

When did you first start sculpting?

I first started painting in High school and I’ve been doing it most of my life. I sculpt only rarely really, but I like to explore new ways to express my work, whether it be a sculpture, an annimation, or a storybook.

What themes do you find yourself addressing in your work, and have they changed over the years?

The Themes I explore in my work are really variations on one theme,  that we need to respect and appreciate the magic in the natural world, and what is it about our western culture that keeps misunderstanding that

As an artist whose works can be quite surreal, how do you find inspiration in the incredibly surreal current global state of affairs? How does art stand out when life becomes bizarre?

I find most of my inspiration these days from spending time in nature. I live in the woods, near the ocean,  staring at the stars. Our modern world barely makes sense to me anymore, so I think I’m seeking out something eternal. It’s very comforting to think about bigger things, planets, galaxies. The ocean itself is an eternal wonder. I think in order to survive the onslaught of an ongoing mass hysteria event, which seems to be our current state of affairs, I have to try to be in a state of wonder and awe, and that’s the right place to be to make great art. I believe all the creative arts act like refuges, oasises, that remind us that life can be amazing and filled with magic.

What are you working on right now?

I’m working on a series of ocean paintings, mainly oceans on other planets. This is for a solo show at KP Projects in Los Angeles in 2023. I’m also starting on a couple of new vinyl sculptures made with 3D Retro, who did the vulture sculpture. I’m really looking forward to working on those! I was so happy with how the first one turned out. And lets see.. I’m also writing some fiction and working on some illustrations for a new book. All really exciting projects! I wish I were 5 people sometimes.
