Fan Friday: Ty Albrektsen aka Tyler The Designer

What was your very first collectible figure?

Probably my Raphael TMNT figure from when I was a kid in the late 80’s.

When did you start collecting KidRobot figures?  What made you want to start collecting KidRobot specifically?

I started collecting KidRobot figures and merchandise about 6-7 years ago. I loved that KidRobot figures could look so incredibly unique while still adhering to this core character look.

What is the ‘holy grail’ figure in your collection?

Well, selfishly now that I am an indie toy designer it would have to be my figure, the Giant Pandemic Dunny.  It took a ton of work to make and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

When did you start making customs?

What’s the inspiration behind your work?

My childhood and I love the dystopian/cyber future style.

Why do you like to work with resin material the most?

I like Resin most but I am starting to venture in to Vinyl.

Who are some of your favorite artists?

Obviously Frank Kozik, James Groman, Jesse Hernandez, Ron English, Ryan B Soto, anyone that you could find at DesignerCon basically.

What do you love most about the KidRobot and the collector community?

The kindness and support. Everyone truly inspires each other to push the creative envelope.

Any figure you are looking forward to or would like to see in future?

I loved the Shard Dunny, it was by far one of my favorite figures ever, I’d love to see more (especially giant ones!).
