Michael Lau/Crazysmiles Day 3 Like yesterday there was much buzz at the Con over what would be unveiled today at the Lau booth. As had been the case the previous two days, Lau's two bouncer characters flanked the velvet ropes at 11:30 AM and began admitting the line, two people at a time. This time the new figure was called LAMDOGSTAR IV. Package in another shoebox style container, the set features two figures and a variety of accessories for both characters: two pairs of sun glasses, two hats, and two gold chains. A mysterious big shoe also comes in the box. Everything from the figures themselves to the accessories had similiar logos and designs to Adidas apparel. Perhaps this is a stab at Nike after receiving a fat pay check from 'em for cc14? As to what we think of the new figure, all we can say is "wow." With the pixelated figures, the bear, and the pig, Lau has done everything he can to alienate his fans. Now he is suddenly back in prime form with the figures released at this Con, and todays set is definately the gem of the bunch. |

2DA6 On to 2da6. Prototypes of their next two super detailed 12-inchers were on display. These are continuations of their working class figures series, featuring characters based on traditional Hong Kong occupations. As was the case with the previous two figures, fortune teller and scaffolding worker, the detail work is simply incredible. The figures are Gulf, a muscle-bound gasoline delivery man, and Wayne, a slender hipster waiter. KidRobot we'll have 'em both. The 2da6 booth was also running A hilarious video featuring two actors wearing oversized Gulf and Wayne running around doing crazy stuff. |
BIDDIES Warning Label Design from Oakland, CA is a new company out promoting their first project, a new mini figure dubbed Biddies. The first series of little guys is entitled B.I.T.DZ an acronym for "Back in the Dayz." It is a six piece set featuring characters based on hip hop fashions and styles through the ages. The six figures are: O'Shay is a streetwise rapper from the ill streets of So Cal. Knot is an East Coast Don. Kid Zulu is Zulu Nation member modelled after Afrika Bambaata. Daddy is a smooth tongued hustler. Imperial One is a laid back slick rthymster. And finally Tre is classic South Bronx breaker, never seen with out his boombox. Designer Roy Miles Jr. was on hand to push the project- Roy's intention with the new minis is the promotion of hip hop culture. We'll definately be carrying these at KidRobot as soon as we can get our hands on them. |
PAZO ART Pal Wong had his next two 12-inch figures out on display, the follow-ups to the hugely successful Gowster and Futurism. The upcoming figures are a very cool looking pair of surfers ,one of which takes advantage of the new Medicom 12-inch body. These figures come with some nice accessories like surf bags and boards. Also on display were some punk rock style inspired vinyl figures with big heads tiny little bodies and alot of spikes. These will all find their way to KidRobot in the future. |

The details on the armor are simply incredible, the Da Joint team did in amazing job allaround. The super limited Camo version was availible at the show (we picked up a few for you guys) and white version will be on the way shortly. Also on display was an ice cold looking short haired chick with a knee high boots and some destructive looking gear. |

COMIX BOX / BPM Hong Kong toy store Comix Box was promoting the new BPM figure designed by New York based artits Brad Digital. This figure has a sick design sensibility reminiscent of Bounty Hunter vinyl. He comes with a Technics 1200MK2 style turntable with shoulder straps so he can carry it on his back. These will be availible on KidRobot real soon! |
AdFunture From the people at AdFunture who first who brought us the original Mad Teeth, comes this cute little ape dubbed Fling. AdFunture director of product development Eddi Yip was on hand promoting the new figure. The ape is by David Silva of Paul Frank fame, and features his distinctive design sensibility. Limited to 250 hologrammed and number, you won't see bootlegs of these guys anytime soon, or ever for that matter. The figure has a really nice squishyness to it and feels great to hold in your hand. |

The good people over at X-Designs had their entire line on display. Lots more middle finger action plus some minis of classic characters. X-Designs also had some very nice comic book art work by the designers on display around their booth |
FUNTOYS Fun Toys had prototypes of some very cool looking 12-inchers. The figures featured handsculpted heads plus hands and sported some dope clothing-- T-shirts by the likes of Futura and BAPE. Very cool. Designed by Jesse Garcia of 2 Much Trouble Toyz in Hawaii, we can't wait to see the production versions. Jesse told us we can expect them sometime soon. |
DA TEAM BRONX One of the hottest new comers around, DaTeamBronx designer Tim Tsui was on hand to talk about his new 6" vinyl figure.
